 Verified Two perfect milestone birthdays — a day we will never forget
We celebrated tow milestone birthdays at Helnæs Mølle with our Australian and Danish family, and it was simply everything we had hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this is a truly special place. We rented six of the charming holiday cottages, spread across the property for our group of 13 and our three small dogs that were also welcomed. Each cottage was cosy, well-kept, fully stocked and perfectly situated to soak in the breathtaking surroundings and spectacular panoramic water views. Waking up on Helnæs with nothing but peaceful nature, birdsong and those exquisite views across the water is something none of us will forget in a hurry. The pre-dinner champagne set the tone beautifully, a wonderfully personal touch that made the celebration feel truly special from the very start. The dinner at the restaurant was absolutely outstanding and catered for all including three vegetarians and one gluten intolerant. Stig and the team went above and beyond to make our evening magical. The food was exquisite and beautifully prepared, thoughtfully served, and every single dish was a delight. The hospitality was warm, genuine and attentive without ever being intrusive. It felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home. For our milestone birthdays, we wanted a day that brought family together somewhere beautiful, peaceful and memorable. Helnæs Mølle delivered on every single count. During a holiday on Helnæs, we stayed right near the mill, and one Saturday afternoon in brilliantly sunny weather we were lucky enough to get a seat on the comfortable sofa on what must be Denmark's best-placed terrace with a fantastic view of the water. It is simply so beautiful here - both the nature, the mill, the cabins and the surroundings. Everything is completely delicious and built in harmony with nature. A treat for a family of aesthetes like us ;) We were greeted by very friendly staff who moved the furniture around to give us a good seat, and who served us wine, beer and snacks, and it all tasted wonderful. We stayed seated for a long time and just enjoyed the experience of luxury and pampering. Over the next few days we tried to visit the place again several times, but unfortunately it was closed. It was very difficult to figure out when they were open. We all agree that we need to go back to this special place, and this time to stay in the cabins and eat in the restaurant.

The holiday apartments are all 55 m2 and have a unique location with a view over the beautiful Helnæs Bay. Each vacation rental contains:

Bedroom with Tempur double bed, duvets and pillows. Bed linen and towels can be purchased separately.

Well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, electric stove, fridge with freezer, etc., which is perfect for home-made culinary displays.

About the holiday homes; architect and materials

In 2019, Helnæs Mølle entered into a collaboration with the Odense-based architect Jesper Thyge Brøgger (https://www.jesperthyge.dk) and already after a few intensive and positive meetings the first sketches for new holiday homes on the mill area were ready.
Jesper worked with an expression that referred to the shelters that already stood in the area – the shelters’ large opening towards Helnæs Bay thus provided inspiration for the large panoramic windows and the ‘floating’ terrace in the holiday homes, which honored Helnæs Mølle’s desire to the highest degree maximum focus on the fantastic water view.

Choice of materials

Helnæs Mølle wanted the holiday homes to be built in sustainable quality materials both outside and inside and for the houses to fit into the scenic area in the most harmonious way, naturally based on compliance with regulations in relation to coastal protection lines etc.
The choice of material fell on the reuse of flensborg stone from the demolished mill house with barn, which stood on the site until 2019. The end wall in the holiday homes is built with these stones and the rest of the house is built using the beautiful maintenance-free patinated acacia wood from Starupwood (http://starupwood.dk).
The roof consists of Sedum – a moss plant that changes color and appearance with the change of seasons, which is just one small reason to have a holiday at Helnæs Mølle in different seasons.
Indoors too, the focus is on quality and solid Nordic design, which suits the beautiful houses. The furnishings include quality furniture from JKE Kitchen and Bath, Tempur, FDB, Le Klint, Bruunmunch, &Tradition and others.
In April 2021, the first 4 houses were ready for rental and in April 2022 the last 4 holiday homes.

The natural gardens at the holiday homes

In 2022, a new exciting element was added to the holiday homes – the natural gardens with flowers and grasses, which surround the 8 holiday homes in the most beautiful and natural way.

Many of the plants are native, and several of them can be found in nature on Helnæs.

The gardens were designed by the skilled garden architect Helle Troelsen from Troensehaven on Tåsinge. With the organically shaped beds and the carefully thought-out planting plan, Helle has ensured that the gardens reflect nature on Helnæs and are an integral part of the large open landscape in the Helnæs Mølle area.
